Born in Odessa and raised in St. Petersburg, Russia, growing up in a family of well-known classical musicians, Ms. Milkis graduated from a specialized music school for gifted children. After immigrating to Canada, she continued her education at the University of Toronto and the Banff Centre of Fine Arts. As the leader of a string quartet in residence, she followed up with an assistantship at Indiana University. A disciple of Joseph Gingold, Zoltan Szekely, Lorand Fenyves, and Aron Knayfel, Ms. Milkis has held concert master positions with the New York City Symphony, New American Chamber Orchestra, Mid-Atlantic Chamber Orchestra, The Windsor Symphony, and has been the lead violinist of several chamber groups, including New York Concertino Ensemble, Chamber Arts String Quartet, and Les Amis. Ms. Milkis has appeared on different stages throughout the world and has performed newly discovered works of the baroque and classical eras, as well as modern repertoire. Today, she resides in New York City and teaches at Lucy Moses School at Kaufman Music Center.
