Milena Zhivotovskaya

Piano

Milena Zhivotovskaya, a pianist, composer and collaborator is a winner of many international awards for piano and composition, including the International Composer Competition (St. Petersburg, Russia 2001), ASCAP Morton Gould Composer Award (2002, 2003, 2007), Young Artist Piano and Composer competition (Newcomb, NY 2002).

Milena's solo performances and composition premiers were in Ukraine, Russia, Romania, England and The United States. She appeared as a soloist with Lucy Moses Orchestra, Mannes Chamber Orchestra (NY), and Round Top Festival Orchestra (TX). As pianist, composer and chamber musician she performed at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, United Nations, Steinway Hall, Roerich museum concert series, Soofser concert series at Bohemian National Hall (NY), Ukrainian Embassy (Washington, DC), Colston Hall (UK), and Great St. Mary Church (Cambridge, UK).

Milena's performances and compositions were broadcasted on “From the Top” radio show, National Public Radio (US), and BCFM Radio (UK). As an active chamber musician, Milena is a co-founder and pianist of Akian Quartet and co-founder and pianist of Duo Ephelia (clarinet piano duo), where she presents thoughtfully crafted recitals and creative educational programs. http://duoephelia.com/
She also premiered works by contemporary British composers, part Piano Triets Project (Colston Hall, UK 2014).

Native of Kiev, Ukraine, Milena came to the US in 2001. She holds both Bachelor and Master degrees from Mannes College of Music. She studied piano with Pavlina Dokovska, Jerome Rose, Eteri Andjaparidze, theory/composition with Leonid Hrabovsky, Robert Cuckson and chamber music with Charles Neidich, Victor Rosenbaum, and David Krakauer. She is also a Rose Biller UJA Federation Scholarship recipient  (2004 – 2010, 2015). Ms. Zhivotovskaya has been on the Lucy Moses piano faculty since 2012, substitute for Mannes pre-college division since 2010, (theory, ear training) and joins NYU Steinhardt piano adjunct faculty from 2015.
