PAUL PINTO  –  The Approach (2021) World Premiere

The contemporary treble voice quartet Opera News calls “the Anonymous 4 of new music” teams up with composer-performer Paul Pinto and “unbearably moving” (Gramophone) avant folk vocalist Annika Socolofsky to bring modern perspectives to traditional vocal genres including murder ballads, shanties, art song cycles and 1960s girl groups.

Socolofsy’s her lover’s hand references traditional murder ballads as well as Woody Guthrie’s “Bad Lee Brown” and Tanya Tucker’s “No Man’s Land.” Pinto’s The Approach is a magical-realist, digital music video song cycle: a love story for and about the women of Quince and New York City influenced by female choruses of 1960s soul, feminist protest anthems and feminized A.I. assistants.

Tickets go on sale in July.
