Born in California and raised in Brazil, Max Barros has been hailed by the critics in Brazil and the US as one of the most versatile pianists of his generation. He won the soloist of the year at the São Paulo Arts Critics Association (1985), and the “Discovery Award” from the French Diapason magazine for his recordings of Camargo Guarnieri’s piano concertos with the Warsaw Philharmonic for Naxos. He has been praised for his “elegance of rhythm” and “refinement of tone” (New York Times) and his “unfaltering brio” (Gramophone). He is in the process of recording the complete piano works of Camargo Guarnieri for Naxos. Mr. Barros has toured South America with the Virtuosi di Praga and has been a guest artist with the American String Quartet, Enso String Quartet, Quartetto di Venezia, Biava String Quartet, Esher String Quartet, and the St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble. Recently, Mr. Barros was in residence at the Soapbox Gallery in New York where he gave ten performances of the Goldberg Variations by Bach.
